I am a Data Principal under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Please action the following in respect of personal data Zomato holds about me:

  1. WITHDRAWAL OF CONSENT (Section 6(4))
     I withdraw my consent to all processing of my personal data except
     processing for which you have a specific, ongoing legal obligation.
     This includes: marketing, profiling, behavioural advertising, sharing
     with affiliates and third parties, and any AI / model training.

  2. ERASURE (Section 12(3))
     Please erase all personal data you hold about me — including back-ups
     and data shared with any processor or third party — except data that
     a specific law requires you to retain. For any data you must retain,
     please tell me:
       (a) what data,
       (b) under which law,
       (c) for how long, and
       (d) confirm it will not be used for any other purpose.

  3. THIRD PARTIES (Section 8(5))
     Please forward this instruction to every Data Fiduciary or Data
     Processor with whom Zomato has shared my data, and confirm in writing
     once each has actioned it.

Common questions

FAQ about deleting your Zomato data

How long does Zomato have to delete my data?

The DPDP Rules expect a substantive response within 30 days, with marketing stopped within 48 hours. Zomato can keep data only where a specific law (e.g. the Income-tax Act) requires it — and must tell you exactly which data, under which law, and for how long.

Will my Zomato account stop working?

If the personal data you asked to be erased was tied to a service feature, that feature stops. Zomato should clearly tell you what stops — and they cannot withhold an unrelated paid service for refusing optional data.

What if Zomato says they need to keep my data for their records?

"Our records" is not a legal obligation. Push back and ask Zomato to name the specific law and the retention period. Most internal “record-keeping” doesn’t qualify, and a blanket refusal is grounds for a complaint to the Data Protection Board.

Can I also stop Zomato from sharing my data with third parties?

Yes — that is exactly what Section 8(5) requires. Zomato must forward your erasure instruction to every party they shared your data with, and confirm in writing each one has actioned it.
